Zine Workshops

2025 ยท Workshop

As part of a collaboration with Rotterdam-based Centre for the Study of the Networked Image, researcher Kendal Beynon and I hosted a series of zine workshops in 2025 exploring the nature of online communities and social media. Participants discussed and joked about ideas of alternative web interactions and absurdist media, attempting to deconstruct their preconceptions of technology and create something fun. We then used 20-year-old MacBooks rescued from an e-waste bin and set up with obsolete art software to create pages and visual expressions based on the group discussions. Finally, the pages of all participants were compiled into a group zine that was duplicated for each participant to take home.

The project was initially carried out at The Photographers' Gallery in London, then re-run at Open Walls in Cork. Finally, Kendal and I were invited to rerun it at GOGBOT in Enschede, Netherlands.
