Nothing's Old and Nothing's Young

2024 · Installation · Adrian Flowers Archive, Ballydehob, Ireland

My first solo show was put together in a week and was based around the relationship between medium, imagery and the portals they create into new spaces, born from the reality of their material. I wanted to break images down to their fundamental display structures, printing them out in dithered points for a low resolution laser printer, or CMYK dots for a colour printer.

Prior to the show I sat for about 2 hours in the space, listening to the sounds of people outside, feeling the mood and the atmosphere, and asking myself what would speak to the people who would visit and the reality they would be stepping out of.

This culminated in the creation of this work, and the Circle Movie; both curated selections of past works, recombined and formatted to create aspects into other worlds and modes of longing and loss.

Stream - a wall of flowing low resolution images exploring the nature of windows, worlds and the act of looking.

A stream of photographs and screenshots. They were digitally compressed and printed using binary dots and reposted in the same order they appeared on the computer.

Code Reams - Screenshots of dithered webpages, followed by the code that created them, with a magnifying glass for visitors to explore.
