2024~Ongoing ยท Collectively coded website
The Everyone Site is a part of my larger MelonLand project. It is a collectively coded website that can be edited simultaneously by the three thousand contributing members of the project (not all make edits).
The goal is to create a playful maze-like homepage of everyone. Within the project there are media archives, meme pages, recipes, point-and-click adventures, a play economy, grid towns, social groups, a mini MMO and more. I wanted to encourage a kind of joyful anarchy, that deliberately dissolved the boundaries of ownership and self definition.
Unlike social media where the focus is on broadcasting as an individual, the Everyone Site is the product of a shared digital folk culture, one that to me better represents the inherent messiness of human experience. Within the bounds of web code, participants are free to create anything, but that anything can be intruded on, expanded, reworked and deleted by everyone.
