2023~Ongoing ยท Virtual pet site
tamaNOTchi is a large virtual pet site with 40,000 pets as of 2026. It allows people to create pets that can be included in profiles on separate sites, clicking a pet increments its age over time causing it to grow and unlock new features.
The site was due to close in 2023 after its creator alleZSoyez wanted to move on. However, its popularity on MelonLand and its quality of representing a very particular fragment of mid-2010s aesthetics and culture made it a worthwhile archive project and a living piece of web history that needed to be preserved.
I hold the belief that websites should be "listed" in a similar way that buildings can be listed for their historical importance. Maintaining tamaNOTchi has been one way to enact that belief.
